Rev. Tim Olsen, Upper Midwest Coordinator
Rev. Tim Olsen grew up on a farm in SW Minnesota. Graduating from the University of Minnesota with an Agriculture Education degree he worked for several years as a County Extension Agent for the University of Minnesota and Cornell University (NY). Responding to the call to ministry Tim attended the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. Ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) he served rural congregations in Iowa for 14 years. Moving back to Minnesota to be closer to aging parents he led a new church start with the RCA before accepting a position for a special project with Sioux Falls Seminary. The special project inspired Tim to launch a nonprofit that provided curriculum and technical support for constructing teaching gardens on the campuses of Title 1 elementary schools to enhance STEM education. When Tim retired from the nonprofit there were three program areas, including SD Agriculture in the Classroom, being accessed by 141 South Dakota school districts, reaching nearly 18,000 students. Tim is a U of M Extension Master Gardener, beekeeper and beekeeper educator, and continues to judge 4-H exhibits at numerous County & State Fairs. Tim is married to his high school sweetheart, the proud father of three children, and spoils his 6 grandchildren. Tim holds the distinction of raising sheep in three states.
