Evangelical Environmental Network Grievance Procedures

In accordance with the Notice of Non-Discrimination, the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) has set forth the following policy for filing a grievance related to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

It is the policy of the Evangelical Environmental Network not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and the Evangelical Environmental Network does not intimidate or retaliate against any individual or group because they have exercised their rights to participate in actions protected, or oppose action prohibited, by 40 C.F.R. Parts 5 and 7, or for the purpose of interfering with such rights.

The Evangelical Environmental Network has adopted an internal grievance procedure providing for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action prohibited by 40 C.F.R. Parts 5 and 7 (Non-discrimination in Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Assistance from the Environmental Protection Agency), including Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and Section 13 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972 (hereinafter referred to collectively as the federal non-discrimination laws).

Federal non-discrimination laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability in certain programs and activities. These laws may be examined in the office of Tori Goebel, Chief Operating Officer, 1086 Pebble Brook Drive, Noblesville, IN, 46062, 717-683-6420, 800.696.0879 (Fax), tori@creationcare.org, who has been designated to coordinate the efforts of the Evangelical Environmental Network to comply with federal non-discrimination laws.

Any person who believes someone has been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability may file a grievance under this procedure. It is against the law for the Evangelical Environmental Network to retaliate against anyone who opposes discrimination, files a grievance, or participates in the investigation of a grievance.

Procedure:

  • Grievances related to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability must be submitted to the non-discrimination coordinator within (60 days) of the date the person filing the grievance becomes aware of the alleged discriminatory action.
  • A complaint must be in writing, containing the name and address of the person filing it. The complaint must state the problem or action alleged to be discriminatory under federal non-discrimination laws and the remedy or relief sought.
  • The non-discrimination coordinator (or her/his designee) shall conduct an investigation of the complaint. This investigation may be informal, but it will be thorough, affording all interested persons an opportunity to submit evidence relevant to the complaint. The coordinator will maintain the files and records of the Evangelical Environmental Network relating to such grievances. To the extent possible, and in accordance with applicable law, the coordinator will take appropriate steps to preserve the confidentiality of files and records relating to grievances and will share them only with those who have a need to know.
  • The coordinator will issue a written decision on the grievance, based on a preponderance of the evidence, no later than 30 days after its filing, including a notice to the complainant of their right to pursue further administrative or legal remedies.
  • The person filing the grievance may appeal the decision of the non-discrimination coordinator by writing to the Chief Executive Officer within 15 days of receiving the coordinator’s decision. The Chief Executive Officer shall issue a written decision in response to the appeal no later than 30 days after its filing.
    • The Chief Executive Officer, Rev. Dr. Jessica Moerman, may be reached at jessica@creationcare.org.
