EEN Celebrates Michael Regan’s Confirmation to the EPA

The Evangelical Environmental Network and its base of over 4 million pro-life Christians are thankful to the United States Senate for confirming climate changemaker Michael Regan to lead the Environmental Protection Agency today.

As a member of EPA Clean Air Act Advisory Committee for the past four years, I witnessed the mission of the EPA to protect public health and the environment be tossed aside in favor of other agendas. It is past time to restore both the mission and integrity of the EPA. Mr. Regan has the experience and ability to effectively guide the EPA and our nation out of our current crises.

PM2.5 pollution, even before the COVID pandemic, causes an estimated 192,000 individual deaths in the US annually. What’s more, poor air quality increases COVID complications, especially in communities of color and low-income communities who have historically been forced to live in areas of high pollution. Methane pollution from the oil and gas sector is accelerating the pace of climate change and harming the health of our families and communities – and it is a problem that is only getting worse. Experts warn that without bold action, methane pollution will continue to cause significant harm to public health, threaten the stability of our economy, and compromise the well-being of future generations.

The challenges are many and the time is short. Mr. Regan’s leadership at both the state and federal levels, his ability to work with regulated industries such as Duke Energy, and his respect for science and public health make him the ideal EPA Administrator.
