Pennsylvania Republican Senator Tom Killion Leads on Clean Energy

The Evangelical Environmental Network is grateful for the leadership of Pennsylvania state Senator Tom Killion (R-Delaware County) and state Representative Chris Rabb (D-Philadelphia), along with over 80 bipartisan cosponsors, for reintroducing legislation to transition the state to 100% renewable energy by 2050.

While this goal may strike some as ambitious, we think it can be done even faster. Over 42,000 pro-life Christians in Pennsylvania support our Pro-Life Clean Energy Campaign’s goal of 100% clean energy in Pennsylvania by 2030.

Given that climate change is already impacting our state and nation, and that the quality of our air and water leaves much to be desired, achieving 100% renewable energy is a moral imperative.

We have a long road to travel before we have a clean environment. Pennsylvania has the dubious distinction of being a leader in dirty air that harms our children, both born and unborn. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Johnstown, Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Johnstown are all in the top 20 dirtiest communities in the nation, and over 20 counties, score a ”D” or “F” in air quality, according to the American Lung Association. This puts over 208,000 children and 945,000 adults with asthma at heightened risk.

So there’s no time to lose, and we encourage Senator Killion and his colleagues to press forward until the goal is reached.
