EEN praises Chairwoman Stabenow for Supporting Rural America

Farm at dusk

The Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) applauds Chairwoman Stabenow (D, MI) and her incredible staff for leading the charge to include conservation and climate-smart farming provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

The farming community and all rural America will benefit from the nearly $40 billion allocated for preservation and protection. This funding includes provisions for precision agriculture to sequester carbon in both soil and trees; new climate-smart forestry practices including wildfire protection, tree planting, and community training; and provisions to ensure our rural electric cooperatives and farmers have the needed help to move into the clean energy economy.

“Chairwoman Stabenow’s leadership comes right from Bible,” said Rev. Mitch Hescox, EEN’s President & CEO. “Genesis 2:15 states that God places humanity in Garden as its gardener, to tend and care for it. Most of our farming community, which includes many people of faith, already practices good stewardship. The IRA funding gives rural America more tools to do what they have already started, helps defend the family farm, and opens new pathways for clean energy. A tip of our hats to Chairwoman Stabenow for yet another step in the right direction in supporting our agriculture and rural communities.”
