Today, the United States Senate failed to adopt a Congressional Review Act resolution (S.J. Res. 76) that would reverse the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal to delay the deadline for oil and gas companies to comply with new methane pollution standards under the Clean Air Act.
In response, Dr. Rev. Jessica Moerman, EEN’s President and CEO, released the following statement:
“Millions of children are suffering from preventable air pollution stemming from oil and gas leaks near our neighborhoods and schools. Delaying protections against methane pollution means more asthma and more cancer, making American families sicker, poorer, and less safe. We are grateful for Senator Whitehouse’s leadership in advancing a Congressional Review Act resolution to prevent the delay of these much needed, cost-effective protections and are disappointed that Congress has chosen the path of more pollution by failing to adopt this resolution to reverse the EPA’s misguided delay.”
