Farmers of Life for Life

Grant and Dawn Breitkreutz who own Stoney Creek Farm near Redwood Falls, MN were recently named as Minnesota’s first Aldo Leopold Conservation award recipients.

The Leopold Conservation Award Program recognizes and celebrates achievement in voluntary conservation by agricultural landowners. The program widely shares the stories of conservation-minded farmers, ranchers, and forestland owners to inspire other landowners to embrace opportunities to improve soil health, water resources and wildlife habitat on their working land.

Dawn and Grant, along with their family, describe their method of farming as Farmers of Life for Life. This description summarizes how the family’s faith in God inspires, guides and drives how the farm operation manages its land, crops, livestock, family life, and community engagement.

Dawn and Grant write, “As ‘Farmers of Life for Life’, finding our place in the complicated and perfect chaos of nature has been challenging operationally and spiritually. One of the early scriptures shared with us is from Job 12:7-8: “Ask the animals and they will teach you; ask the birds of the sky and they will tell you. Speak to the earth and it will instruct you”. These words felt like home and teach us daily to carefully observe all the life we see and hear on the land. We have found our spiritual foundation throughout the Bible and are daily committed and comforted by His word.”
