Today, the United States Senate confirmed Mr. Joseph Goffman as Assistant Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air and Radiation. The Office of Air and Radiation has the critical mission of ensuring clean air for all Americans. On behalf of the more than 600,000 pro-life Christians who have taken action with us for strong pollution safeguards, clean air, and a safe climate for all God’s children, the Evangelical Environmental Network congratulates Mr. Goffman on his confirmation.
In response, the Rev. Dr. Jessica Moerman, President & CEO of the Evangelical Environmental Network, released the following statement:
“As Evangelicals, we take seriously the Bible’s command to care for God’s creation and defend every life at every stage from all harm. While it may seem unusual for an evangelical Christian to support the confirmation of an EPA Administrator, Mr. Goffman and evangelical Christians agree on the need to defend children and all humanity from the deadly threats of pollution and climate extremes. In these uncertain times, it is long overdue to bring certainty to one of our most sacred duties – defending the health of our children. Today’s confirmation of Mr. Goffman as Assistant Administrator of the Office of Air and Radiation does just that.”
Mr. Goffman is the former EPA Associate Assistant Administrator for Climate, Senior Counsel for the Air Office, and Executive Director of the Harvard Law School Environmental Law Program. Over his distinguished career, Mr. Goffman has demonstrated a commitment to considering all voices and viewpoints but has always let the medical and scientific facts determine the proper course of action. With his extensive experience and long dedication to defending the health of the American people, Mr. Goffman is more than equipped for this position and will lead not only with deep knowledge, skill, and ability but also with the highest of integrity.
